Cinematography Breakdown-Night Hike
There Is Someone Walking Behind You
Going in with this horror short film I was really inspired by the movie “Game Night” especially for the interiors. I believe my Gaffer and I did a good job of creating a warm and inviting feel, while still keeping things down and moody.
The Shot: Group Shot
Camera is static on our two main characters
Lighting:
Our key light, camera right was an Aputure F22 pushing through bleached muslin. Camera left, was a 6x6 solid to add contrast to the talent. For the background extras we used a DMG MAXI.
The Shot: Medium Shot
Camera is static on our main character giving a toast to the party
Lighting:
For this shot we swung our key around to wrap the face camera left. We also added a snooted 150w Arri tungsten fixture on the picture in the background for some interest. The DMG MAXI in the foreground was dimmed way down still giving us some level in the foreground.
The Shot: Close Up
Our lead actress is touched by the comment and toast
Lighting:
For this shot we kept the key where it was from the group shot. We added a bottomer to keep some of the light off our talents body. We also added a sider to the key to keep the light off the background. Camera left there was some negative fill, the backlight was an Aputure MC acting as our moonlight. In the deep back was an Arri 300w tungsten raking across the bushes.
The Shot: Friendly Two Shot
Camera is static on our ladies having a conversation after the party
The Lighting;
For this shot I wanted to go for a cross key look and have a very contrasty downside. Lighting our actresses was the DMG Mini and MAXI MIX’s. Uplighting the foliage was two Arri 300w’s and top lighting everyone in the background is the F22 with a lantern attachment and full grid cloth.
